We’re staying in Ushuaia for 3 weeks, so we weren’t in any rush to do activities right away.
The first week, we were just enjoying staying in our Airbnb – enjoying the -2 degrees Celsius weather being under blankets and watching Twin Peaks and Atlanta.
Two days ago, we finally decided to do a major tourist activity – the Canal Beagle tour! We booked through Destino Patagonia, and the tour lasts about 3 hours. The boats leave at twice daily, at 10am and at 3pm. We of course took the afternoon one, for more warmth and the sunset!

Leaving the port of Ushuaia, excursions to Antartica depart from here as wellWe went out to take photos, it was really, REALLY coldAlex enjoying taking photos, he's working on his website now, launching soon...Good thing we brought our thick coats from Kansas City!This was my favorite spot on the boat, as I am shielded from the cold wind, because my hands and face were already freezing!The view from the bow (AKA front of the ship), people all had their camera phones out and enjoying looking at the penguins and sea lionsThis is called the Isla Alicia, the first stop we have on this tour to watch penguins and sea lionsHello there, here's my hip reflection photo... The smell was not very pleasant though, as you can imagine...You really need to wait your turn to get decent photosThe sea lions were barking, some were even fighting!Wild seagulls flying aroundThe Canal Beagle is nestled between Argentina and Chile. We had snowy mountains to our left and rightYou can choose to be on a big boat, a medium boat like ours, or a small boat perfect for a private groupWe took breaks from the cold, the boat has a mini bar where you can order hot coffee, snacks, and even alcohol to warm you upPenguins galore for souvenirsMore penguins sunbathing (or staying safe from the whales?A half moon in the afternoon! Wish we had a longer zoom lens!Faro Les Eclaireurs, our second to the last stop, this is the furthest we'll go out in the waterApparently, this is often mistaken as the inspiration for Jules Verne's novel -- Lighthouse at the End of the WorldThe actual lighthouse of that novel is actually further east from hereStill amazing to me! This was made by prisoners station in Ushuaia back in 1920What a great experience this was... A once in a lifetime adventureWe are actually here since Alex recently celebrated his birthday! Seeing him happy, makes me happyChile is so near, yet figuratively so far for me. I need to apply for a visa to enter. Maybe next time then!After 2 hours and a half, we are on our way back to UshuaiaHappy Pride!Argentine snow mountainsThe last stop was at Islas de Tierra del Fuego, where we have to chance to go down and do a short walk and enjoy the panoramic viewThe Yagan/Yamana are the indigenous group who lived in these parts, making them the southernmost human population of the worldWish I took better photos of the plants, some were really frosted, but some were just white!Glaciers moving shaped the geography of this placeForming these mountainsWe spent about 25 minutes here, which was more than enough because it was already night time and even more freezing!Heading back to the port, the skies turned pinkI like Ushuaia, it's a small town with a population of about 60,000 people.Thank you Alex, for bringing me to the end of the world! <3I love how the sky is just pink, and you can see a glow of blueSo pretty, so calming! What a wonderful experience this has beenMaybe if we have 20,000USD to spare, we can go to the expedition to Antartica... but that's too expensive!And that is all for this post!
