Patagonian Roadtrip
For our last few days in Ushuaia, we decided to rent a car to see more places. From our experience, walking to a taxi stand takes about twenty minutes – and this is in freezing temp and through some slippery, icy roads.
We planned to go to the Tierra del Fuego National Park, but we were advised not to proceed at the park’s entrance. We needed four winter tires, not just the two we had in front. They were looking out for us, as some parts of the paths became icy from the snow a few days before.
And so to make the most of our time with the car, and to photograph more sceneries, we decided to go on a Patagonian road trip!
Being surrounded by these mountains really gives a feeling of wonder and appreciation for the Earth we live in
I have watched videos on YouTube saying if you find a U shape in between mountains, it definitely means that a glacier went through it

My shoes have never been as dirty as here in Ushuaia -- remind me to get waterproof shoes next time

This is from day 1 of our roadtrip, we decided to go about an hour away from Ushuaia town proper to an observation deck
I am perpetually in awe of big formations with snow on it - definitely not something we see in the Philippines!
There weren't a lot of cars traveling that to and from Ushuaia
The roads would be empty at times, perfect for photos like this!
We love how there are dedicated viewing stops with info boards on them - wish we had these in the Philippines!
It started to snow a bit when we were here - I would last about 5 minutes outside the car until I have to go back inside to feel my hands again
We would see a lot of helicopters touring the town and these mountains above us - what a sight it must be!
A reminder to always pick up after yourself when you're out :)

There were container trucks we would be on the road with, and the occasional cars, heading to Ushuaia maybe since it's a port!
Alex took this photo on one of our stopovers - I learned that the shape of this roof is for snow to just slide down when it falls

We were heading to San Sebastian, a 4 hour drive from Ushuaia. You would see the South Atlantic in the horizon

As I said in my Instagram stories - we thought these were Llamas or Alpacas! But nope, they are their cousin, the local South American Guanacos!
Patagonia is SO VAST. Seeing developments like this one here is a welcome sight after fields of grass and snow

When the scenery isn't flat and vast, it's a high cliff with a private road on it
For most of the drive North, it looks like this. So calming.
And nearing San Sebastian, you would see sheep grazing on fields
We were chasing the sun for most of the drive, and now it's almost setting!
Empty roads, cold weather, happy couple taking photos
We were kinda worried to be in the dark on the way home, as there were no street lights for majority of the way, but it was no biggie
These Guanacos are really shy - it's difficult to take photos of them since they jump through fences and run away
What did we see in San Sebastian? The Sun setting!
It was pretty though, seeing the sun set through flatlands
It was so orange!
This is end of the drive north, if we cross the border, then we would be in Chile!

Definitely a memorable road trip that was a real journey
A total of 10 hours for this Patagonian roadtrip! Can't believe how amazing it is that Alex drove through this part of the world
Day 3 of driving around - a view of Ushuaia from higher up - see the ports?
Apparently, Ushuaia is the capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands, and therefore of the Malvinas Islands (Falkland Islands)
Away from the town proper, the roads were just dirt roads
Just wanted to see what was up here, I guess
Ushuaia town proper - where there are lots of gift shops, rental shops for snow gear, and restaurants!

Our Patagonian road trip was through Route 3, Bahia Lapataia was the national park we couldn't go to

We have been watching some episodes of Long Way Up on Apple TV with Ewan McGregor. They rode electric motorcycles from Ushuaia to Los Angeles! Was cool to see the same terrains we saw, but with Obi-Wan.
